HELP! If you live in CALIFORNIA, I NEED YOUR HELP to SAVE California homeowners from having their homes sold by the BIG BANKS & creditors.
TOMORROW Monday, August 31, the California State Assembly and Senate will vote on Senate Bill 832 and companion Assembly Bill 1885. This legislation will help keep Senior Citizens, Disabled, Struggling Families, and hardworking individuals from having their homes sold by the big banks and creditors to pay medical bills and other debts such as credit cards, high interest so-called “personal loans” including those bought by the bottom-feeder debt buyers that paid cents on the dollar than sue for every cent owed.
Senate Bill 832 and companion Assembly Bill 1885. increases the homestead exemption to protect a minimum of $300,000 in equity for a single person, for spouses or single parents and for Senior Citizens and disabled persons. Depending on the median sale price of a home in the county they live in, it can be more.
Right now, those amounts are a measly $75,000 for a single person, $100,000 for spouses or single parents and $175,000 for Senior Citizens and disabled persons.
Under present law, a creditor can force the sale of a person’s home to reach the value above the exemption amount. Often they get the home AND all the equity for next to nothing at a “Sheriff’s sale.”
This is horrible for most people, and is particularly devastating for senior citizens who spent their whole life paying off their home so they would have a place to live that was theirs in old age.
Senate Bill 832 and companion Assembly Bill 1885 will change that.
THIS LEGISLATION MAY WELL FAIL WITHOUT YOUR IMMEDIATE HELP!
I am NOT asking you for money. I am asking for something much more precious, a few minutes of your time to contact your California Assembly person and State Senator and let them know that you want them to vote for Senate Bill 832 and companion Assembly Bill 1885.
The last time legislation to help people keep their homes, the lobbyists representing the Big Banks and financial institutions LIED to California Politicians. They claimed that Bill was legislation that was designed to protect the wealthy. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Politicians happily stuffed their pockets with, er… “political contributions.” Many of them either decided to change their vote to support the big banks and vote against that Bill or conveniently were lined up at the restrooms when it came to vote.
Senate Bill 832 and companion Assembly Bill 1885 have a good chance of passing because the fat cat banks and debt buyers don’t have the time to buy the votes like before. This is “Emergency Legislation” that does not have to pass through the time-consuming steps the prior legislation did.
THE VOTE IS EXPECTED TO HAPPEN TOMORROW, MONDAY AUGUST 31.
If Senate Bill 832 and companion Assembly Bill 1885 fails to pass, tens of thousands of people including disabled and senior citizens will lose their homes and be put out on the streets by the big banks, debt buyers and other bottom feeders.
Senate Bill 832 and companion Assembly Bill 1885 is supported by unions, consumer rights groups, women’s rights groups, minority rights groups and many more.
This is YOUR CHANCE TO MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE for ordinary people, and potentially yourself at some point, by contacting your Senator and Assemblyperson NOW. Let them know that you want them to vote for Senate Bill 832 and companion Assembly Bill 1885.
